Woodside Energy Limited
Woodside Atwood Eagle Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) Modifications and Upgrade
Woodside engaged ICON to engineer, design, fabricate and install modifications on the Atwood Eagle Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) in preparation for their drilling and completions operations on the Greater Western Flank campaign.
ICON provided all of the Project Management, fabrication management and support, logistics, offshore crew and personnel and client liaison both onshore and offshore.
Subsea Equipment
Various modifications to the MODU were required to assist with the transfer of subsea packages from the starboard side pipe deck, onto the cellar deck and through the moonpool in a safe and controlled manner.
Storyboards for the transfer of the equipment were created and handling/running equipment supplied including handling skid, inspection stand and guide axles.
The design of sea-fastening and capacity checks for the stowage of the subsea equipment on the starboard pipe deck was carried out and spreader beams to support the subsea equipment installed on the starboard pipe deck.
Other modifications carried out included:
- the supply of a riser access platform and removable moonpool safe access ladder;
- supply of a crossover sub for use with a tree running tool;
- installation of the Guidance Frame for running equipment;
- installation of umbilical roller guides;
- modifications to an overhead walkway to assist in running the BOP;
- modifications to an access platform at the forward end of the moonpool;
- design of removable walkway sections for future use and ‘destruct’ of installed steel, and
- reinstatement of removed steel at completion of operations.
Coiled Tubing
ICON also carried out the design, fabrication and trial installation of a support structure to support a Schlumberger coiled tubing reeler over the riser catwalk on the aft pipe deck. Deck layouts and sea-fastening for the equipment spread used for coiled tubing operations on the aft pipe deck were also designed.
Well Test Package
ICON carried out the design of deck layouts and sea-fastening for the well test package on the aft pipe deck and carried out modifications to the pipe deck to accommodate the well test spread as required.
A skid to support a flat pack reeler on the portside pipe deck and a support grillage for the Scottech water treatment unit were also designed, fabricated and installed.
Gravel Pack
The design of sea-fastening and deck checks for the gravel pack equipment spread on the Lewek Teal Anchor-Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS) were carried out as well as the design, fabrication and installation of load-spreading equipment support skids. The design, fabrication and installation of two hose hanger platforms and a valved tee-section in the mud pump room on the MODU were also undertaken.
Other scope
The design and fabrication of a 20”and 36” C‑Plate was also undertaken as well as the conceptual design of two safe access walkways to replace a temporary platform being used across the moonpool on board the Atwood Eagle.
