Quadrant Energy Dorado -1 Flareboom Loading Study, Racking Analysis and Gangway Installation, Carnarvon Basin
ICON was contracted to support the drilling of the Dorado-1 oil discovery in the Carnarvon Basin by providing a range of engineering services to the Ensco 107 drilling rig, for the partners, Quadrant Energy and Carnarvon Petroleum.
ICON was contracted to support the drilling of the Dorado-1 oil discovery in the Carnarvon Basin by providing a range of engineering services to the Ensco 107 drilling rig, for the partners, Quadrant Energy and Carnarvon Petroleum.
The Ensco 107 required a significant amount of engineering work to suit the client's proposed range of activities.
Installation of client's Kingpost onto contracted drilling rig
- Performing engineering checks on the client's own kingpost to confirm suitability for the padeye arrangement on the Ensco 107;
- Modifying the kingpost to suit the Ensco 107 deck arrangement;
- Installation; and
- Load testing the installed Kingpost.
Vertical Racking of the 60ft Flarebooms
- Feasibility study for vertical racking;
- Detailed design of vertical racking system;
- Procurement of vertical racking rigging and steelwork; and
- Execution of vertical racking modifications.
Boom load testing
- Prepare load test workpack;
- Procure load testing hire equipment;
- Design & Procure load testing rigging; and
- ICON provided an engineer and a NDT technician to witness the load test and post load MPI the backstay padeyes at the port & starboard location.
Surge Tank Seafastening
The Ensco 107 was required to transit between several other drilling commitments.
ICON designed and fabricated the sea-fastenings to secure the proposed surge tank in the vertical position principally for the two tow periods between the Dorado drilling location and two other locations.
Support for Pressure Control Equipment
Another work scope was to design and fabricate a clamp to hold down relief lines in the drilling bleed off package, to relieve up to 26MMscf/day flow during drilling and testing operations.
Gangway for Platform Access
ICON designed and installed a gangway to facilitate access to a non-operational platform as part of the client’s decommissioning program for assets that were no longer operational. The gangway had to allow for adjustment in horizontal and vertical planes.
