Beach Energy Otway Basin Phase 4, Ocean Onyx Subsea, Completions, Drilling and Well Test Support
ICON Engineering was engaged by Beach Energy as part of the Otway Offshore Phase 4 project to assist across a wide range of sub-disciplines throughout the campaign.
How It Started
ICON was initially engaged to perform interface and clash checks for XTree deployment through the Ocean Onyx moonpool.
Tolerances were incredibly tight, and precision key. Using ICON rig survey data, ICON established that the XTrees could be handled within the moonpool, despite the north face of the moonpool only having a 168mm clearance from the tree extremity. Moreover, ICON engineered, designed and installed a bespoke guide axle onto the XTree skid and guide cones onto the XTree cart to ensure this clearance was to be preserved. The guide axle and cone design was key to mitigating any clashes.
What It Became
Beach continually turned to ICON for further rig modification and interface works, and across six separate offshore mobilisations amongst various scopes. ICON’s work encompassed the engineering, design and difficult installation of an umbilical arch and support over the moonpool to support IWOCS umbilical handling, and an umbilical guideline onto the BOP frame.
Other work included water bag load testing, seafastening of equipment across the rig, and grillage and seafastening engineering, design and installation onto a PSV for XTree transportation. ICON’s proven expertise in challenging design and installation conditions ensured all works were complete with impeccable execution to client and rig standards with zero incidents.
The Result
The diverse workscopes across the project provided a platform to showcase ICON’s multi-disciplined skillset to engineer and exceed client specific needs in an autonomous manner.
