ICON CTU sales swim strongly against Gulf of Mexico tide
Perth-based ICON Engineering has just chalked up another order of its conductor tensioner units (CTU) into the Gulf of Mexico’s (GoM) offshore oilfields, saying its well valued products are avoiding the drastic cost cuts in the drilling sector.
Perth-based ICON Engineering has just chalked up another order of its conductor tensioner units (CTU) into the Gulf of Mexico’s (GoM) offshore oilfields, saying its well valued products are avoiding the drastic cost cuts in the drilling sector.
GoM rig operator Oro Negro has ordered an ICON P100A pull up CTU control system, after having been a happy user for many years of the push up style ICON T230A tensioner unit on both its Laurus and Primus jackup rigs.
The ICON P100A Tensioner provides BOP top tension to support the weight of the BOP and prevent potential buckling of the conductor beneath from excessive compression loads. The P100A provides passive compensation to maintain a nominally pre-set tension.
CTU Project Manager Scott Warren said while belts are clearly being tightened, the latest P100A design advantages are highly valued by rig operators.
“It is always a good sign of a great product, and service, to win repeat business,” he said.
More than 90 ICON CTUs of various designs have been sold to drilling rigs around the world since 2005.
